Requesting to install Extension:Math to this wiki
Usage examples: to explain how lambda calculus works, using TeX-style mathematical expression, what features () has, and use TeX-style equations everywhere.--YamTokTpaFa (talk) 08:04, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- It's been on the TODO list, though looks like the landscape has changed since I last looked at this.
- I can't really tell if the current documentation implies it's okay for anyone to use Wikipedia's Mathoid server, or whether you have to run your own. The bit where (for the Mathoid CLI setup) it says "Raise MediaWiki's memory limit to 1.2G" makes me a little worried about running it locally. The MathJax client-side option (which I thought about using, previously) is now deprecated, though there's Extension:SimpleMathJax instead.
- If it's okay to use Wikipedia's API, or if Extension:SimpleMathJax seems sufficient, then I could probably set that up during the next MediaWiki upgrade. --fizzie (talk) 09:18, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- We did it, I just never commented about it. You can see it installed at Special:Version though. So
<math>e^{i\pi}</math>
should render as . --fizzie (talk) 22:31, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Request to change my username
Hello, so here's the account I would like to modify. I think that a pseudo like Rerednaw would be a good choice if doesn't bother anyone. --BoutonIA (talk) 01:22, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Edits by User:Heavpoot
The edits by Heavpoot ([1] and [2]) were authorized by me.

- Doesn't really matter. The edits to Esolang:About and Main Page ([3], [4]) are offensive enough. If they're planning to do any edits that don't involve defacing existing content in the near future (we don't have a high bar on quality, but there's still limits), let me know, and we'll see if I can figure out how to unblock someone. Otherwise the block will just expire on its own. --fizzie (talk) 20:59, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- FWIW, it was against the backdrop of those two edits that I thought the edit to User:SoundOfScripting was more likely to be vandalism than not. Apparently that was wrong. --Int-e (talk) 21:23, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
An error occurred when I tried to edit my talk page
I tried to edit my talk page, but this happened. ColorfulGalaxy (talk) 23:08, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Warning: You are recreating a page that was previously deleted.
You should consider whether it is appropriate to continue editing this page. The deletion and move log for this page are provided here for convenience:
02:52, 15 March 2021 Fizzie talk contribs deleted page User talk:ColorfulGalaxy (Vandalism: cleaning up after Trump Bot)
- I take it that's just a warning? If so, please ignore it and feel free to create your talk page. Yes, as the message suggests, there was some nonsense posted there by the now blocked User:Trump Bot. Unless I read the history wrong, the page did not exist before those edits, so I took the liberty of just deleting it to clean them up. Do let me know if that message is actually preventing you from creating the page; I think it shouldn't. --fizzie (talk) 23:16, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Spoof the Wiki UI
What is "spoof the wiki UI"? --ColorfulGalaxy (talk) 12:45, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
By the way, this account appears to be frozen. If it really is, please defrost it so it can be used.
- Writing an edit summary of
Unexpected error) (****hidden for security reason****
is a blatant attempt at making the second part look like an error message from MediaWiki, rather than being part of the edit summary. Hiding the revision (and the ones it mostly reverted) was the cleanest way I could think of to get rid of it, as MediaWiki does not have a reasonable way of editing the edit summaries.
- As far as I know, there's nothing special about the status of the "ColorfulGalaxy (disambiguation)" account. That whole thing about "bans that are not visible to moderators" is either (a) complete nonsense, (b) something external to this wiki (like a leaked password or whatnot), or (c) some sort of MediaWiki vulnerability. I'm leaning towards (a), and consider (c) quite unlikely. I would prefer not to have to think about it any further.
Is the Orange Bar of Doom working?
Recently, when people have edited my talk page, I haven't been getting the infamous Orange Bar Of Doom that lets me know my talk page was edited.
This isn't really a problem if it's only happening to me, as I'll usually notice such changes in Recent Changes, but if it's happening to other people too, it would make it hard to contact them (e.g. with moderator messages) – it might be worth checking whether something is broken. --ais523 02:34, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- I don't really know how to measure whether it's more working than not, but it did appear to work for me. This is what I saw immediately after logging in: https://zem.fi/tmp/obod.png
- Since our current MediaWiki version (1.38) is technically at end-of-life, I should likely upgrade it in the near future. It looks like 1.40 and later come with a bundled extension, Echo, for a more elaborate notification system. Happy to hear thoughts on whether that should be enabled or not. --fizzie (talk) 02:44, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Glad to see that other people have a working orange bar of doom! I've used Echo extensively on Wikipedia and am mostly neutral on it – it has a lot of functionality that I don't really need or use, but also don't see it as any sort of problem. I guess my opinion would be "if it's easy to get this working, might as well in case someone benefits from it; if it's difficult to set up, it isn't worth bothering." --ais523 02:47, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
unblocking me and unname4798 from Esolang:Sandbox
we did nothing wrong tommyaweosme 23:44, 3 August 2024 (UTC)(objectivelyright)
- I don't expect a response here will help in any way, but for the sake of propriety... no, for two reasons:
- (a) Obviously the block wasn't for "no reason" — it was for repeated misuse: trying to preserve old test edits; trying to remove/hide/obscure the instructions; trying to create sandbox copies on the wiki; none or negligible use of the sandbox for actually testing what changes on the wiki will look like.
- (b) I feel it's highly likely the only reason why you would need to be unblocked from editing the sandbox is to continue the above, not a burning desire to use the sandbox appropriately. Frankly, I'm not even sure what could convince me otherwise. Fortunately there's very little in the way of using the wiki constructively (i.e., for the documentation of esoteric programming languages) that the block would in any way hinder you from. --fizzie (talk) 12:29, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

- bleh. i already have user:tommyaweosme/sandbox. you dont need to unblock me from your weird gross "anti-preservation" sandbox, whatever that is. tommyaweosme 23:19, 4 August 2024 (UTC) || tone indicator: /lh
