Active Replay is an esoteric programming language created by User:Rainwave in 2026.

Language semantics

The language operates on a bidirectionally-infinite tape where each cell stores a single bit, initially 0. A pointer is initially placed on an arbitrary origin cell. 0-cells are called inactive cells while 1-cells are called active cells.

The language only has the following four instructions

Command Description
> Move the pointer right by one cell.
< Move the pointer left by one cell.
! Activate the current cell. If the current cell is already active, this instruction does nothing.
? If the current cell is active, reset the instruction pointer back to the first instruction.

The execution halts if the end of the program is reached.

Computational class

It is currently unknown whether Active Replay is Turing complete or not, though Rainwave conjectured that it is.
