I'm very certain the word is spelled troupe in the USA, possibly due to trope already being used to mean other things or how the ou is pronounced "with a long o sound", like troop.--MDude (talk) 14:13, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Agreed. According to Wiktionary, "troupe" and "troop" both come from the same Germanic word, "throp", from which we also get "thorp". There is a nonstandard usage of "troop" listed to mean "troupe", but the entry on "trope" has no mention of either "troupe" or "troop", and does not share an etymology, coming from Greek. I suspect that all the references to alternative word spellings in the Troupe specification are merely intended for humorous effect. —Maharba (talk) 17:42, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
