Informatics is a term generally used in most of continental Europe and Russia to refer to the academic field known as "computer science."
As a basis for esolangs
In the world of estoteric programming languages this concept often lends itself to the formulation of semi-serious languages. Due to this fact the term earns a mark of distinction from what is known as "computer-science." Informatics is a field of computer science which exists as the result of many of the pre-1993 esolangs.Note:1993 is when the language brainfuck was invented and marks the era after which most formal reasoning about esoteric programming languges was made possible.
