Template talk:Featured language

Would a star be better than a check? A checkmark doesn't really say "Featured". Here are some possible stars: ★ ☆ ✯. The star would just replace the check in common.css (or have the star be part of the template, which makes more sense). —Maharba 20:39, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- Quite possibly. It looks a little too big if I just replace the check with a star; I'll try to tweak the CSS to see if I can make it look OK. The reason it's part of the
span:before
rule is so that it doesn't display on other skins and browsers that don't support CSS; there's no inline syntax for that, so it has to go in the CSS file. (I might move the other CSS rules back, if I can find a way to put them on multiple lines.) —ehird 20:45, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- After playing around with it, the star doesn't work too well, IMO; I'm open to other suggestions of other symbols, or other designs for the icon entirely. The tick was picked to signify recognition and approval of the language, but I guess that meaning might be cryptic. I'd appreciate feedback from others. In the meantime, I'm going to try using a screenshot of the icon in the CSS rather than creating it from scratch, since there seem to be rendering problems with alignment and fonts for many people. —ehird 01:59, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
