Monty Python’s Flying Circus

The language is initially referred to as “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”. Is it a joke? --OfficialWatchOS7Alt (contacting, edits, free email) 11:17, 21 April 2026 (UTC)

Python really is named after wikipedia:Monty Python. This is why the Python documentation is full of Monty Python references. GvR was watching Monty Python's Flying Circus, or perhaps just reading the scripts, during the holiday season of 1989. It's also the origin of names like Monte for Python successors. The full name of the language is well-known to Python insiders. Corbin (talk) 15:33, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
