In the "Clear cell" example it is said that this code:

X X X
X   X

translates into:

[-][]

How can that be? The first operator is "X X" which is equal to the "," BF operator, not the left bracket.. --(this comment by 46.40.123.61 at 07:15, 3 August 2012‎ UTC; please sign your comments with ~~~~)

Actually the first operator is "XX ". The neighbors of the first X are taken from the bottom line with toroidal wrapping:

X X X
X   X <- Neighbors taken from this line
