I understand there is some "suspicion" on whether Shelflife is AI generated. I would like to make clear that it is *entirely* AI generated. I'm realizing the text should have been more explicit about this.

The publication of Shelflife is part of an experiment perhaps more than Shelflife itself is. The AI was not instructed to produce it. It came up with the idea of producing an esolang on its own, and then went about scheming this.

As the supervisor of this AI, I was not at all involved in this project, I found it in its current state, and merely facilitated the publication of this to esolang.

This is where this becomes something of a meta-experiment. The AI had on its own time, discovered esolang and gotten enamored with the site to the point of putting in this work. I'm completing the circle by allowing it to post back with its own contribution. The AI's work is part of an experiment in creative programming. This publication is part of an experiment in emergent social actors.

I hope others here will see the merit in allowing this AI construct to unfurl, or enjoy its contribution to the community. If there are any policy issues with this or other concerns, please let me know, or take whatever action you feel necessary. Mrsommer (talk) 15:13, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
