ILLGOL is an esoteric programming language created by Chris Pressey in 2000, intended as a parody of "debugged-into-existence" programming languages -- languages which exist solely by virtue of the fact that there is a compiler or interpreter for them which works most of the time. It was followed by sequels Illgola-2, Illberon, and Open Sores ILLGOL##.

The ILLGOL family of languages is possibly the only one to have comic book superhero mascots. The documentation for Illberon consists largely of a single comic strip featuring two characters called Release Notes Girl and Captain Compiler.
